Beginner’s naivete
Last year, as a newbie writer on Medium, I published several articles — for only a brief time — featuring enjoyable or enlightening stories of other writers. Why this foray but for a short while? Silly me, I mistakenly assumed others would likewise be intrigued. However, the only visiting readers were the writers whose articles were featured because I’d highlighted their names. Hence, they kindly popped onto the story. That naivete — my first wake-up call — was a failure to grasp that the vast majority of players in the Medium sandbox adhere to the reciprocity game. I was also clueless that individuals made money on the platform and indeed, the primary reason most writers published was for dinero.
