I Would Have Loved You

if only you had been better

I would have loved you more
had you been a different child.

If only your skin
could have been
a lighter color

Had your lips
not been so full,
Were your hips
under control,

your hair not
so dark and curly
if your eyes
were a clear blue…

All that brown
looked dirty to me.
You could have been
more clean.

Had your smell
been more pleasant
and your wildness
better tamed,

I would have loved you.I wanted to.
