I watch a lot of European news. After all, I am from there, and it is so easy now to stay informed about every corner of the world. When I was a teenager in Germany, I had to turn on the radio in hopes to hear some English. It is interesting to see the U. S. elections through foreign eyes. In 2018, a German TV crew crisscrossed the U. S., asking people why they had voted for Trump. People were frank, perhaps since they thought no one here would know what they said. One man indicated that the presidency was “a man’s job” and that he wouldn’t vote for a women regardless of her qualifications.Seven years later, in another documentary by German film maker Hubi Koch, a tattoo artist in the Bronx said that he couldn’t vote for Harris.Women were just too emotional, he said. “If her boyfriend cheats on her, she may just blow up some nukes.” Harris is married. I am not sure why he thinks that she would have a boyfriend. It is quite clear though that misogyny is very prevalent in the U. S., at least concerning politics.Another prevailing theme is that many Trump supporters think that he is not a good person or is even a despicable human being.
