Negative Impacts of INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION of England!!!!!
Industrial Revolution and it’s impacts
Everyone with basic knowledge knows about the Industrial Revolution. I.e the series of developmental procedures that occurred in industrial sectors in England from the 1750s to 1860s. However, it showed the world how the manufacturing sector underwent certain changes and changed the pattern of its growth. It has many positive aspects which many know but, certainly, few know about its negative impacts. Here I tried to compile some of its shortcomings which showed long-term problems around the globe.
Some of it’s negative impacts
- Migration- A downside of the process was the crowding in cities, which led to problems with housing. I.e the urban area was now divided into two contrasting components of slums on one side & the luxurious homes of businessmen & the manager class on the other side.
- Migration caused social stress in the form of the dissolution of social bonds.
- Industrialists saw workers as cogs in the machine & just another factor of production(16- 17 hours of stressful duty). They aimed to maximize profits & thus the wages of workers were far less.
- No efforts were made for the social security of employees. ( due to unsafe machines many workers laid their life )
- Child labor & participation of Women was high. ( but still, they were paid less than men )
- Environment pollution was severe. It led to the beginning of wide-scale damage to the ozone layer. ( further leading to many health problems in workers, asthma, and cancers )
- Type of resentment among workers that, parliamentarians did nothing for the welfare of workers. ( so locals opposed new technologies & important discoveries )
- The Chartist movement( movement from the working class) emerged in England in 1836 and it led to many strikes and protests for their empowerment.
- The Industrial Revolution intensified the neo-colonialism. I.e Imperialism increased. ( African colonies and so on.)
- Furthermore, it became the cause of loot in many colonies around the globe. ( I.e India, Africa, Southeast Asia, etc )
However, these are some hand-picked negative impacts around the world. It is pertinent to remember that it was the negative side of capitalism during the Industrial Revolution era that called for the arrival of Socialism I.e Karl Marx developed his ideas by observing the miserable conditions of workers in England.
