Iranian Economists this past weekend spoke in several fora discussing how the next presidential administration should address the country’s economic challenges. They also criticized specific policies enacted by past administrations to illustrate management failures.

In a Channel 1 interview on Monday, Mehdi Ghazanfari, the head of the National Development Fund’s board of directors, lamented the lack of economic expertise among the presidential candidates.He argued that regardless of personality, moral character, charisma, and other attributes that may garner votes, what the country needs is someone who understands economic management.Such expertise, as well as working with expert advisers who can provide informed analysis about specific issues, will be required to effectively manage the county’s complex economic system.
