The whole point of BRICS being an anti-Western alliance is that there is not supposed to be one true leader in the international system. By joining together, BRICS represents a new kind of ideal for the future of international relations. If anything, that’s the promise — a vision for a new international order. I also disagree that these countries are not delivering on goals to expand on economic cooperation.
Tougher sanctions from the US and EU will matter to them, but as a multilateral group, these BRICS countries have the ability to cause a lot of disruption in the global commodities markets. I mean BRICS starts with Brazil and Russia, two kingpins in the global commodities space. They already brought in Iran, and Saudi Arabia could join in the future, too.
