Introductory Note

Welcome to the 27th edition of the “Twin Minds: Alba and Anton”! After three intense editions that forced even the most resilient readers to reconcile their personal biases with the harsh reality of political and social transformations, our intellectually twin siblings deserve a break. Yes, a break to breathe in a bit of lightness — or at least pretend we can, knowing that Alba and Anton only let us relax while they go have a drink at the tavern around the corner.

In the previous editions, we explored African development, which, in the case of Mozambique, has proven to be paradoxically challenging, as we witness a society being led with its ‘heels turned toward the future.’Between utopias that failed like milk in the sun and models that thrive on underdevelopment, it’s time to turn to other dilemmas — more literary, but no less challenging.In this edition, we leave behind war, coups, and the ghosts of colonialism and radical revolutionary utopias to lose ourselves among the palms under the moonlight.
