Dec 28, 2023I was sprawled on the bed like a deflated balloon, drowning in a sea of self-pity and failed discipline routines.
My latest article prompt had gone as flat as my motivation, and I was about to swear off the internet forever (or at least until the next cat video binge). Then, ping! My phone chirped, jolting me from my existential funk.
I figured it was you guys, showering me with virtual confetti for my latest masterpiece (don’t worry, that article is coming, I swear). But nope, the email sender was…me? From six months ago?
Let’s rewind to the beginning of 2022 when I first discovered the website. Although I didn’t start using it until later in 2023.Back then, Pinterest was my happy place, and one click led to another until I stumbled upon a video about a website that sends emails to your future self.I’ll share the link to the website at the end of the article; after all, I need you to read my article to the end — don’t I?And here’s what my email from 6 months ago read —But did you read that? That message instantly got me out of my sulking mood. The timeline when I wrote that message to myself was in June.Six months later, I’m not exactly captain disciplined, but I’m definitely not wallowing in self-pity anymore. You reading this article is proof enough.Maybe it’s not a prize-worthy achievement, but for me, it’s a testament to the power of a well-timed email from my future self. Also, this website isn’t just a one-way street. You can reply to your past self, basically writing an epilogue to a chapter in your life. Cool, right?I ended two chapters of my life on a positive note. Reading letters from my past, which were written based on my mood at that time — made my current self feel rejuvenated.
It gave me a much-needed dose of a different perspective. It reminded me of the things I could only see if I slowed down from this frenzy of thoughts. The website also has the cool feature of publicizing your life chapter to the world and it’s an interesting read for many people. You can even choose the time when you want to receive the letter. It could be 2 years from now, maybe 5, or like that user above who got an email from himself 17 years later! Talk about long-term planning! So what are you waiting for? Get a letter from your future self and fill it with surprises for yourself.Write affirmations, goals, and words you always wanted to hear from someone and write them to yourself.Because in the end, you’re entirely up to you. Here’s the link —
