When I was growing up, my dad would come away with all these pithy sayings and I’d groan like he had just woken me from a deep sleep. What I didn’t realize was how I would end up repeating these to myself when I needed them. They actually came in useful.I recall them when I need them.He said them so often, they just got ingrained in my brain. When life gets tough and he isn’t around for me to cry on his shoulder, his wisdom pops into my head. He helps me answer the toughest questions, and he isn’t even there. You’ll likely have heard them before, but I’m gonna share them because I’m sure you will find them useful some time, too.

“Measure Twice, Cut Once”

Dad often used this classic aphorism when he was doing stuff around the house. I don’t do DIY or anything like that, but I cook and I have to plan things in my life.It has stood me in good stead. I always check my plans and one time it saved me from a big bill when my travel companion got our flight times wrong — she forgot to take into consideration the change in time zones.
