The soaring tension between Canada and India has led both to expel each other’s Diplomats

The preservation of sovereignty is of paramount importance for a state. The defence of sovereignty fosters trust in the government, and citizens expect a prompt response from their government to any external threat or violation of the state's sovereignty. Citizens expect their state to have the capability to protect them, and the absence of state action following a sovereignty violation can lead to a trust deficit in the government among the affected citizens, resulting in internal resistance. Meanwhile, Retaliation can escalate tensions between states; therefore, in the contemporary global political landscape, states often resort to expelling diplomats to express their protest and concern over violations. In the contemporary world, a diplomatic conflict similar to this is the killing of Nejjar by India affecting relations between Canada and India.Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a Canadian citizen and a prominent figure in the Khalistan separatist movement, labelled a terrorist by India, and was assassinated in June 2023.
