The first one had come and gone, sans anything more than the brutal recovery one must go through after acquiring a titanium kneecap.But this second surgery caused my dear friend to walk through time and space itself.Steve recalls the doctor asking him to count back from 2023 — the year of his second knee surgery.“Where’d you grow up?” the doctor asked.“The Bronx. I have been thinking a lot about growing up there.”As the IV cocktail worked its magic on Steve, memories of his time as a teen in the Bronx started to flood his senses.“I started thinking about the Bronx, my old neighborhood, the kids on the street.
