The Deep
A Zeno Poem

I have lost my place in the sea.
No stars to guide
my heart
home.
But in the deep,
the black
loam
will find its way
back to
foam.
I have lost my place in the land.
Kahālāwai,
my home,
cries.
But in return,
tides will
rise
and fill the void
in her
eyes.
I have lost my place in the wind.
the sound of peace,
soft it
goes.
But with the trades,
the song
flows
out to scatter
where seed
grows.
Footnote:
*Mauna Kahālāwai is a relatively modern Hawaiian name for the West Maui Mountains, “Kahālāwai” is interpreted as the House of Water, the Meeting Place of Waters, or the place where heaven and earth meet.
