You often hear advice that one should be balanced. Another way of saying this is that nothing is black or white. Nothing is entirely right or wrong. Everything lies on a spectrum and ultimately comes down to interpretation. If you think about confidence, it lies on a spectrum between Arrogance and Fear. A total absence of confidence renders a person fearful while an abundance of it leaves the person arrogant.Thinking you know too much can result in arrogance while thinking you know too little can result in fear.Clarity is necessary to ensure that one stays in the realm

of confidence and does not slip to either end of the spectrum. Clarity implies you know what you know and you know what you don’t.Clarity is also a result of the kind of people surrounding you. They say, the more you learn, the more you become aware of the things you do not know. If that statement was entirely true, then the most well-read people in the world should tend towards fear rather than arrogance but that is not the case.If you have read 400 books and the people around you have read 400 others then your interactions would only make you realise the depth of your ignorance. Alternately, if you have read 400 books and those around you have not even read 4, then you would more likely end up feeling rather cocky.Enlightenment does not necessarily imply humility unless you are in equally enlightened company.
