“AG INDUSTRY ON TRUMP’S PLANS— this is the headline for Politico’s Weekly Agriculture newsletter this week.

According to the newsletter, written by Marcia Brown and Grace Yarrow of Politico:
  • The US agriculture industry and farm lobbying groups have advised against reforming immigration laws as a result of Trump’s plans for mass deportations and other possible extreme measures to stem immigration at the southern border.
  • US agriculture demands entail that the domestic job market does not meet the current needs of American farms and other industries, which means they need to fill important relied on undocumented migrant workers to their farms through legal visas.
  • Several agriculture industry leaders have come out publicly to express their concerns about potential immigrations law that would adversely impact US agriculture, such as Michael Marsh, president and CEO of the National Council of Agricultural Employers, who said: “From an employer standpoint, you’re very concerned when you hear somebody talk about deporting a significant amount of the existing workforce.”
