It’s Not a Presidential “Debate”

By calling the charade a “debate”, we are denying ourselves an opportunity to be an informed electorate.

US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to stand on the same stage on Thursday, June 27 and take turns giving stump speeches. That’s not a debate. Were it a debate, they would present and defend arguments on specific issues, policy positions, and implementation strategies.For example, there is a housing crisis in the United States. So, this would be a great opportunity to compare concrete ideas and specific plans the candidates have for making homes more affordable.Instead, this will be more like an awkward press conference in which the two speakers clearly dislike one another and make snarky remarks back and forth.

Hosts, not moderators
