Frank climbs up the staircase with long, rapid strides. Vanessa veers away from him. With a soft shuffling sound, she sweeps down the length of the corridor, seeking the refuge of her bedroom. But she can’t run in stiletto heels and a ballroom gown. Her brain is torpid with booze, her legs slow.

“Vanessa.”His stern call, almost in rebuke, compels her to turn around to face him. His erect frame throws a long thin black shadow on the carpet of the corridor.“Having a swell time. Am I invited to the party?” He nods towards the glass of champagne.“Stay away,” she says, retreating before him, one step at a time, her feet uncertain. “What do you want?”“I guessed not. Anyway, party’s over. Grab some clothes. I’m taking you away.”“Away where?”
