God’s Elect

Who are they really?

Something that has always amazed me about the Evangelicals I grew up around is the way they excuse only one religion from not believing the same as them, Judaism.They will clearly denounce Hinduism, Buddhism, Paganism, and even Islam a closely related religion, and one much more friendly towards Christians, but never speak ill of Judaism.Of course, historically there have been Christian groups that were fervently against Judaism, but this seems to not be the case for the majority of American Christians.I bring this up because when reading the Bible there isn’t really a clear message of who exactly God’s “Elect” are.
Isaiah 45:4-NASB

4 For the sake of Jacob My servant,
And Israel My chosen one,
I have also called you by your name;
I have given you a title of honor
Though you have not known Me.

Clearly here God is saying Israel, and thus the Jews are his “Elect”.
Matthew 24:24-NASB

24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

In contrast, here it seems to be speaking of Christians possibly…although Christ may still have been referring to the Jews since he himself was…

Religion and Politics at The Dinner Table
Bouncin’ and Behavin’ Blogs

I'm a US expat living abroad. I especially love discussing religion and politics, often in situations that aren't considered polite. L.K. Summer.
