If you frequent social media no doubt you’ve run across at least one comment saying “This weather sure is weird” in regard to the recent hurricanes that have hit the southeast U.S.Unfortunately, I already could read between the lines when I saw this comment because I knew the person was a conservative Christian who wasn’t quite sure about the shape of the Earth, so I didn’t continue the conversation with them any further than that.Another person I’ve known since high school however wasn’t as vague about their beliefs, they posted a meme pointing out all of the patents that have been made since the 1800s for people trying to control the weather. Now sure, China has proven that when certain chemicals are shot into clouds they can either dissipate them or cause them to gather more moisture and likely rain. But that is a long way away from being able to create a hurricane. The best conspiracy theories are always based on half-truths.That is the narrative that conservatives in the U.S. are currently trying to push, that hurricane Helene and Milton have been formed by democrats to hit the U.S. south to either kill or at least prevent these areas from being able to vote.
