The Taiwan Strait has been and will be one of the Earth’s hot spots. Taiwan is an island located 120 km off the coast of the Chinese mainland with a population of 23.5 million. China claims Taiwan as part of its ‘de jure’ territory yet the reality is that Taiwan meets the requirements to be considered as “independent”, since it has its own parliament and government that governs the island. In this paper I will identify why Taiwan is important, the ideological significance it has for the West and an analysis of the elections held in early 2024.After a worldwide escalation of international conflicts, the American-Chinese psychological warfare is now being waged in Taiwan. The Chinese government, which considers the island as a rebellious province, responded with a harsh answer after the visit of the American representative, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan, “those who play with fire will get burned” they said, because they view this visit as a violation of their national sovereignty.
The reason for the importance of this island is due to three predominant factors, the economy, geo-strategy, and the current status quo in Taiwan.
