In the 12th century, a legendary figure in Islamic history known as Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi, or simply Saladin, stated: “If you want to destroy any nation without war, make nudity and adultery common in the younger generation.” Unfortunately, in the 20th century, nudity and adultery have become so common that they form part of our daily lives, and we have normalized them. What’s even more unfortunate is that nudity and adultery, in the form of pornography is accessible from virtually every connected device, making it easily available to everyone, from underage children to adults.Anxiety, stress, anger, depression, loss of self-esteem, loss of grey matter, distorted perceptions of reality, and sexual disorders — here is a brief list of the risks associated with consuming pornography. Pornography ranks among the top six compulsive risk behaviours. In this article, I won’t delve into the well-known substance known as dopamine, which activates our brain’s reward circuitry and leads us to believe that porn is superior to sex or even real-life experiences. Instead, I will focus on the fact that nobody is immune to these effects. A study conducted on monkeys has shown that even they prefer viewing images of female monkeys over actual mating.
