In what can now be described as one of the most significant escalations of the Middle East crisis, Iran has retaliated against Israel following the bombing of the Iranian consulate (by Israel) in Syria. For the first time in its history, Iran launched a direct attack on Israel. According to the Times of Israel, over 300 drones were fired towards Israel, reaching their target on the night of April 13, 2024. Iran justified its actions by asserting its legitimate right to self-defence hence, drawing parallels to Israel’s response following the October 7th incident.For context, Iran has accused Israel of bombing its consulate in Damascus, Syria on April 1, 2024. This brutal and illegitimate attack, which is a clear violation of International Laws, launched by the most moral army in the world, resulted in the deaths of 11 people, including several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisers and the former leader of the Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria. Following the attack, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, who was unharmed in the incident, stated that Tehran’s response would be “decisive.”
