The US presidential election has garnered significant attention in Pakistan, given its potential implications. This electoral event has stimulated increased discussions both within Pakistan and among the American-Pakistani diaspora regarding the impact each candidate may have on the country’s future, particularly about former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated.Nevertheless, many of these dialogues have not sufficiently addressed the underlying structural factors that shape US policy toward Pakistan, nor do they fully recognize the limited interest Washington has in the region and its political economy.From Washington’s vantage point, the strategic withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan, in conjunction with the evolving partnership with India, has resulted in a decreased relative significance of Pakistan in geopolitical considerations.
