A first time, two weeks long journey through Morocco as a Dutch traveler

Mid July 2023 I set off on a two week long adventure through one of the most mysterious countries I’ve visited in my life; Morocco. I had never visited the country, but I was looking for a place warm and exotic, not too far away from home. Morocco was the destination of choice, and without regret I must say.

Arriving in Marrakesh

I flew from Amsterdam to Marrakesh and would be staying in Marrakesh for a few days. I arrived in the evening and I can remember this evening very well. I was welcomed at the edge of the medina (the old town) and was brought to the riad. For those of you who wonder what a Riad is, it’s a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an atrium or inner garden. Many of them are turned into hotels these days. My host was a friendly young man who I immediately had a chat with after arrival.I was hungry and decided to have some dinner at the the main square of the medina, Jamaa el Fna. I was shown the way there by my host and what an amazing square this is! The square is of significant size and is filled with many stalls and eateries. I sat down at one of the stalls and had some Moroccan barbecue. I felt like I was one of the few foreigners there at that moment and was getting more…
